Kelda

Terms of Use

Last updated: 4 November 2026

These terms apply when you use the Kelda app and this website. By using Kelda, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.

The app and the books

Kelda is a feed of passages from public-domain books, with the whole book a tap away. The books are free to read, and the words are the authors' own. We prepare the texts from public-domain sources and may add, change or remove books at any time.

The books are in the public domain in the United States. Copyright terms differ between countries, and you're responsible for making sure reading a book is allowed where you live.

Many of the books were written long ago and reflect the views and language of their time.

The Kelda app, its design, its name and logo, and the material we create for it (such as AI recaps and explanations, card layouts and quote card designs) belong to us or our licensors. You may use them to enjoy Kelda for yourself. Quote cards you share are yours to share.

Your account

Kelda signs you in with a guest account, so you don't have to give us your name or email address. Your reading syncs to that account. Because it's a guest account, you may not be able to get back to it if you uninstall the app or lose your phone. If you delete your account, its data can't be recovered.

You must be at least 13 to use Kelda. To buy Premium, you must be old enough to make purchases with your App Store or Google Play account, or have permission from a parent or guardian.

Kelda Premium

Reading every book is free. Premium is an optional subscription that adds extras, such as read aloud, Explain this, recaps, offline downloads, study mode, synced imports, fonts and themes, highlight export and Year in Reading, deluxe.

AI helpers

Explain this, recaps, Ask the book and some study mode tools are written by AI. They can be incomplete or wrong, so treat them as a reading aid, not as fact or professional advice. They never change the book's own text. We set fair-use limits on how often they can be used each day.

Books you import

You can import EPUB files you have the right to use. You're responsible for what you import. Imported books stay on your device unless you turn on sync (Premium), and we don't share them with anyone.

Using Kelda fairly

Please don't:

We may suspend access for anyone who does.

Other services

Some features connect to services we don't run, such as the App Store, Google Play, Readwise and Notion. Their own terms apply when you use them.

If you got Kelda from Apple's App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Apple isn't responsible for the app or for supporting it. If Kelda fails to match its description, you can tell Apple, which may refund the purchase price, if any.

No guarantees

We work hard to keep Kelda running well, but we provide it “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we don't promise that it will always be available, error-free, or that every book or feature will stay in the app.

Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data, profits or opportunities. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for Premium in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be limited.

Ending these terms

You can stop using Kelda and delete your account at any time (You › About › Delete account). We may stop offering the app, or part of it. If we do, we'll try to give you notice.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and tell you in the app if a change is significant. If you keep using Kelda after a change, the new terms apply.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the place where Kelda is established, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections where you live.
